The design brings light and interest into a standard post-war house plan. The existing house comprised a conventional arrangement of cellular rooms and the brief was to enlarge the dining and living rooms around a central feature fireplace. Rooflights and high-level gable windows throw sunlight in at different angles and the arrangement of windows afford a variety of views down the garden to the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty beyond.
The architectural treatment is in keeping but the design brings a relaxed contemporary feel with interconnected spaces.
